First Baseball Game and Trip to the Zoo Part 2

Recently we took Jack to his first baseball game!  In Des Moines we have the Iowa Cubs, the Chicago Cubs AAA farm team.  They are really fun, low key games where you can usually see a real Cubs player or two play as they recover from injury or something.  The real Iowa Cubs players are pretty good too.  Through work, James was able to get a group of free tickets for residents and their families to go to a game together.

We got there really early so we could get settled before it got too crowded. Jack met Cubbie Bear, and even got a signed baseball!

Jack did really well.  He liked watching the action of the groundskeepers and a little bit of the game when it started.  Then mostly he enjoyed screaming (see 2 pictures above) and looking around at everyone we were sitting with :)  Mommy and Daddy got to enjoy a hot dog, cheese fries, and a beer on a nice summer night. (I missed that last summer when I was pregnant with Jack!  Isn't enjoying a beer outside the whole point of going to a baseball game??)  :) It got a little chilly as the sun set and Jack was up an hour and a half past his bedtime when we decided to call it a night.  We made it through 7 innings and the Cubs were winning 7-2 when we left.  Go Cubs, go!

Last weekend Grandma Kane came for a visit to help out while James had to work and I was on call (my last weekend call shift ever as a resident!).  On Monday I had the day off because I was post-call and James happened to have the day off too so we decided to try the zoo again. Jack had a nice morning nap before we went, so he was ready to go this time! The Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines is no Brookfield Zoo, but it has all your basic zoo animals is really pretty fun for a small zoo.

He has started to hold out his hand to new people that walk in the room or in this case, animals he saw. His favorite was the seal exhibit.  He'd hold out his hand and say "bababa" when he saw a seal.  It was so cute to watch him enjoy the animals!

Jack's favorite animals were the seals, we think he also liked the monkeys and a few of the big cats.  We also took him on a train ride around the zoo, which he liked.  Glad this trip was more of a success than his first trip to the zoo!
